Monarch Butterflies

These portraits were made on that trip to a butterfly sanctuary in Mexico during the yearly migration of the Monarch Butterflies.

I was able to join the team around my dear artist friend Olivia Steel, that planned an installation in the sanctuary and work on my own side project on set. I captured portraits of all the crew members.

FYI : The purpose of this project was to bring awareness to the fact that the Monarchs are nearing extinction! —in large part due to human activity- habitat loss, use of pesticides/ insecticides , climate change and wildfires...

The butterflies used in this shoot were not alive, they were found on the ground, as many come there to die in the migration process. This mission was done with a guide, with the utmost respect and integrity of the sacred environment.
